Edisto Island 2016

We had a wonderful week with my family at Edisto Island! This trip was extra special because Mama Dot was able to join us all the way from Kentucky. This was her first time meeting Baby Wade!

Edisto Island has become a favorite place of ours. We love that its quiet, as well as beautiful.

One of Edisto's yummiest charms is King's Farms and Market. We went almost daily to pick out fresh produce and baked goods. They have the best homemade desserts, breads, soups, and casseroles. I wish you could smell these cinnamon rolls through your screen!

We also made a stop at George & Pink's produce stand. Its located a bit off the beaten path, but is a gorgeous drive under a canopy of oaks draped with Spanish moss. Jacob loved seeing their goats and rooster.

We really enjoyed the big oceanfront porch! We spent lots of time rocking and swinging in the hammock while we watched the waves. One morning we got lucky and saw dolphins!

Jacob loved reading and playing with Meme! She's always so good to play with him pretty much every time he asks. They made many sweet memories together!

Jacob also loved sharing "bonk-beds" with Daddy! :)

The Guiers celebrated the first Wolfpack win of the season!

Lydia and Wade had fun "playing" together!

Our weather was very dynamic. We had some rain, some sun, and even a tropical storm! Staying right on the beach made it easy to go back and forth depending on the weather. Even with all the storms, we still had lots of beautiful, beach-worthy weather!

Lydia started (doing her own spider monkey version of) crawling during our trip! I forgot what it was like to have a mobile infant in an un-childproofed location! It was tricky to have her down at the beach, because all she wanted to do was eat sand. Forget sitting in one spot on a blanket!

The kiddie pool was the only way we could keep her contained! She still reached over to grab sand snacks, but it wasn't as bad as when she was roaming free!

Hurricane Hermine, which was a tropical storm by the time it reached us, made things pretty interesting on Friday. We were a little concerned beforehand about the storm surge and our cars, because the ocean practically reached our house during high tide, but it was fine. The wind ended up being a bigger problem than the rain and surge. We lost power for a while, which wasn't a huge deal except without AC it was very hot! It was also a little unnerving to feel the house shake with the wind gusts, but we survived!

The storm washed this horseshoe crab to shore!

Aunt Ryan found some great shells after the storm, as well!

On Thursday we took an outing to Botany Bay Plantation and Wildlife Preserve. We decided to do the driving tour. The two buildings pictured below are the Ice House and garden shed of the Bleak Hall Plantation, which burned either during or shortly after the Civil War.

We spotted an alligator and it was HUGE! As we were leaving, the ranger at the entry gate asked if we'd seen any wildlife. When Thomas told him about the gator, he said it was 12 feet long!

We finished out the week with a birthday celebration for Uncle Thomas!

Beaching it with Littles is quite a different experience than our vacations of the past, but we had so much fun being together! We missed Uncle Bubba (Andrew), though! He originally planned to come down on the weekend, but it ended up not being able to due to his first week back to school. Plus, there was lots of flooding throughout South Carolina on Friday, due to the tropical storm. Central SC was actually worse off than us at the coast! Hopefully next year things will work out for everyone!
