Fourth of July 2017

Happy 4th of July!!! We spent most of the day traveling home from Lexington, KY, but still managed to have some patriotic fun! And while we didn't see any fireworks this year, we enjoyed a cookout at  Ms. Toni's (our neighbor) house.

Cousin Fun!

Within the past month we've had a couple of chances to hang-out with Wade. In mid-June Jacob and I made a trip to Charlotte to babysit Wade while Thomas and Ryan went to a wedding. The boys had lots of fun playing together, and Jacob was so much more patient with his cousin than he is with his sister. However, when I was putting him to bed that night he said, "Now --- we're not taking Wade home with us, are we?" :)

I really enjoyed having some one-on-one time with Jacob. I think age 4 is a pretty perfect age. He's old enough to be somewhat self-sufficient, but still young enough to be genuinely funny. I might have to freeze him here! :)

We made another trip to Charlotte last week just for fun! It was a bit chaotic with all three, but it was really fun for the kids to get some cousin time together! Within 24 hours we managed to fit in a trip to the pool, popsicles on the deck, a bonfire with s'mores, a smashed hand in a bathroom door, community bath, about 8 thousand trips up and down the stairs, as well as a trip downtown to a children's library and lunch.

Lydie's hair-do is proof of the heat and humidity!

We can't wait for our beach trip together! Its going to be WILD!

Summer Happenings

Between our trips and travels, we've been filling our days with all things summer!

Vacation Bible School was definitely a highlight of Jacob's summer! Snack, specifically the lemonade, and the music were his favorite parts. The church gave all the kids a CD of the VBS songs, which is all we listen to now. Jacob also loves to make us play VBS/church at home. Its really funny and kind of reminds me of making my family play school with me when I was a little girl!

Lydia and I enjoyed time together while Jacob was at VBS. It gave me a little glimpse of what it will be like this fall when he starts preschool again.

Honestly, I'm really looking forward to school starting back next month. Jacob and Lydia love each other, but they're very much oil & vinegar. Being together all day, every day is a little much for all parties involved. I'm hoping the break school will give us will also reduce the amount of screaming and crying I have to listen to on a daily basis.

Most weeks we head to the library on Wednesday for story time with Mr. Zach. We've also been participating in the summer reading program.

We're loving our summer garden! Along with our flowers, we're finally getting zucchinis, cucumbers, peppers, and tomatoes!

Sometimes Jacob joins me for a run in the evenings. He can pretty much run (very slowly) the mile loop I do. I think we're going to find a fun run to participate in this fall. We might have a future cross-country star on our hands! ;)
