Kentucky Trip

A last month we traveled to Lexington, Kentucky for my cousin's wedding. While I was excited to attend Sam and Lisa's wedding, I was honestly not 100% excited about the trip. I wasn't looking forward to the long drive with our "car-intolerant" children, and the thought of us all sleeping in the same hotel room made my eye twitch. (Okay, not really, but you get the point). However, things actually ended up going really well. I've learned that when it comes to traveling with the kids, its best to set my expectations really low and just assume the worst, then anything else seems pretty great! :)

On the way to Lexington we stopped at the Knoxville Zoo, which was a little less than halfway into our trip. It was a great break for everyone. Along with seeing lots of fun animals, there were lots of play areas for the kids to run around and burn off some energy. We brought a picnic and got some ice cream for dessert!

Anddddd...we're done!

Saturday was kind of a long day. The wedding wasn't until 6:30, so we had lots of time to kill before then. We had breakfast with Mandy and her daughter, Lydia, and then spent some time at the hotel pool. Jacob was really into "swimming" and had so much fun splashing around! Lydia put her feet in and decided she was good with just that!

The hotel had a beautiful veranda out front, so we had another picnic lunch out there before Lydia took her nap and Jacob and Daddy went back to the pool. Lexington is Horse Country, hence the horse statue that was a big hit with the kids!

My grandparents, uncles, and cousins started to arrive late afternoon. We ordered some pizzas and hung out in our room until it was time to leave for the wedding. Jacob entertained everyone with some musical performances and storytelling!

The wedding was held at a castle in Lexington, and it was beautiful!

Jacob's favorite part of the night was watching the sunset on the roof of the castle. He said the sky was on fire!

We headed home the next day, the 4th of July. It was a long haul back, especially since Lydia only slept 40 minutes of the 7 hour trip, but we made it!
