Hello, summer!!! Jacob finished up school during the first two weeks of June and then we jumped straight into summer fun! We stayed busy getting together with friends, going to VBS, and taking trips to the lake and to Kentucky.
Lemonade Stand
Jacob has been dreaming of having a lemonade stand all winter and his dream finally came true the first weekend in June. Our neighborhood was having a community yard sale, so we thought it would be the perfect opportunity. We were really surprised at how easily people passed up these cute little kids and their lemonade. Luckily, I was able to call Meme and a few friends in the neighborhood to recruit some customers.
Later that afternoon Scott and I went out to lunch for a belated birthday celebration. We'd also hoped to see Aladdin, but tickets were sold out. We ended up watching Charlotte's Web with the kids. We just finished reading the book together.
Lake Day with the Houston Family
The next weekend we headed to Nebo for our annual lake day with the Houston Family! We look forward to it all year and even though our weather conditions were less than ideal, we still had a wonderful time with some of our favorite friends!
Field Day Fun!
Jacob had so much fun at his first Field Day! I got to volunteer and we were both worn out by the time we got home!
Magic Show at the Library
Kindergarten Graduation
We can't believe Jacob's kindergarten year is already over! He grew so much this year and we're so proud of all he's learned and accomplished. We loved watching his class perform their songs and watching him walk to receive his diploma.
After the graduation ceremony we went back to Jacob's classroom for individual awards. Jacob received the "Aspiring Author" Award. His teacher said, "We all love reading and listening to Jacob's amazing stories. They are engaging, thoughtful, and full of Jacob's personality. Throughout the year he has learned to add details and interesting facts to his writing to make it truly come alive. I know with continued practice and effort, we will be able to buy our very own Jacob Baden book. Hopefully I will be able to get a signed copy!" We all loved Mrs. Tillery and Ms. Greene. We'll miss them next year as Jacob heads off to first grade!
We went to Babaals afterwards to celebrate with ice cream!
Last Day of Kindergarten!!!
Father's Day
We met up with Papa and Uncle Andrew for lunch in Morganton for a Father's Day lunch. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed walking around downtown afterwards. On Father's Day morning we made a special breakfast for Daddy and the kids gave them special cards and presents they had made him. We are so thankful for Scott and all he does for our family! Jacob and Lydia are so lucky to have the best dad in the world!!!
Summer Fun
We fit a lot of fun into our first few weeks of summer! We met up with the Gentilcores at the park, spent a week at Bible School, and had a lot of fun just playing at home!
Lake Vacation with the Badens
Instead of going to the beach this summer, the Baden Family gathered at Grandma and Grandaddy's house in Nebo. We had so much fun taking boat rides, swimming at the "beach," eating yummy meals, and even went to Tweetsie Railroad. It was a great time together!
Kentucky Trip
We went almost directly from the lake vacation to Kentucky for Mama Dot's birthday. It was too long of a trip for Violette, but Uncle Thomas brought Wade to Fletcher and he joined us for the trip. The kids were troopers during the seven hour car ride!
We stayed at Aunt Sarah's house in Cadiz and from there took day trips to Princeton and Oak Grove. While in Princeton with Mama Dot, I took Jacob to tour Adsmore, which is a historical home that Mama Dot used to take me to as a child. When I was Jacob's age she worked as a tour guide there. She dressed in period clothing and let me come to work with her a time or two! Just like me, Jacob was fascinated with the big house and all the "olden day" things inside of it!
We took a day trip to Uncle Benny's house on Saturday. Mandy and her kids were able to come, as well. The kids had lots of fun playing together and preforming their Bible School songs. My cousin Sam and his wife Lisa brought their new yorkie puppies, which added extra entertainment for all!
On Sunday we went to church with Mama Dot and then celebrated her 89th birthday at Aunt Sarah's house. The kids stayed in the same nursery that Mama Dot used to stay in as a child. She's been a member of her church for her entire life!
We decided to start the trip home on Sunday evening after the birthday party. It was such a long drive that we decided to get at least half of the trip behind us that night. Aunt Sarah's cat, Frank, wanted to come with us. The kids got a kick out of him sitting on Jacob's suitcase while we were trying to load the car.
The kids loved spending the night in the hotel! It was a great trip, but we were all pretty exhausted by the time we got home the next day. We're so thankful for all our family - near and far!
