May 2019

I think its safe to say that May has been the busiest month of the year! We've had birthdays, teacher appreciation weeks, Mother's Day, end of the school year activities, and a trip! Whew!

Jacob's 6th Birthday Party
Jacob decided to have an painting party for his 6th birthday. He loves art and any chance to create, so this was perfect for him. We had his party a week before his actual birthday and between the painting, cupcake decorating, and playing outside, I think it might have been his favorite one yet!

Water Color Party Favors

Cupcakes! I decorated a few for the adults, but each child had a paint pallet full of sprinkles and candies to decorate his/her own cupcake. It seemed to be a big hit!

We set up the painting area in the garage. I traced the picture on the cavasses ahead of time and the kids had a blast painting their "Happy Camper" pictures.

I think Uncle Thomas wins the best gift award! He chose this joke book for Jacob and we now have a stand-up comedian on our hands! His teacher told me they are getting to hear lots of jokes at school, too!

We spent the rest of the afternoon relaxing, playing in the rain, and hanging out in the garage doing some more painting and eating. It was a wonderful day!

Unfortunately our neighbor Ms. Toni had to put her dog, Zack, down. He was old and his quality of life had become very poor. It was a terribly sad thing for her and for us! The kids loved Zack and miss him very much. We were thankful to have a sweet time saying goodbye to him.

Fletcher Elementary Teacher Appreciation Week
I spent most of the next week at Jacob's school helping with Teacher Appreciation. We started the week at Fletcher with a staff breakfast. Throughout the week we also hosted a Poppy's Popcorn Bar, a catered lunch, and gift baskets for each teacher donated by local businesses.

Jacob made cards for his teachers and gave them  beautiful flower bouquets.

Jacob's 6th Birthday
Jacob's birthday fell between the two teacher appreciation weeks. I took this picture of him on his last night as a five year old. He was very excited, but also a little sad. He said he'd had a great life being five and he didn't see how being six could be get any better. But he was all smiles when he woke up the next morning! We had waffles for breakfast and he got to open a present before going to school.

One of Jacob's birthday requests was to buy cafeteria lunch instead of me packing his lunch. He was super excited to have pizza and milk from a carton for his birthday lunch! Lydia and I came to eat with him and we brought icee pops to share with his class.

It took a little convincing, but I finally persuaded Jacob to let me check him out early. (The boy loves kindergarten!) We met Daddy and spent the afternoon at the Mountain Play Lodge.

Then we met Meme, Grandma, and Grandaddy for dinner at Papa's and Beer. Everyone came to our house afterwards for presents and cake. We had so much fun celebrating our big six year old boy and he declared it the best day ever!

Wade's 3rd Birthday
The next day we headed to Charlotte to celebrate Wade's 3rd birthday. It was another great day full of cake, family, and celebrating!

Mother's Day
I loved the special Mother's Day breakfast that Daddy and the kids made for me! They also treated me to a day working in my flower garden, which was something I hadn't had time to do yet and very much looked forward to! We planned to eat dinner at Mona Lisa's but they were closed!!! I was disappointed - its my favorite - but we just ended up going later in the week.

Kindergarten Field Trip
I was so happy to go on Jacob's field trip to the Nature Center. While we go there pretty frequently, Jacob was so excited to go with his friends and to ride the bus - another first! Jacob cracked me up by referring to me as "Mrs. Baden" throughout the day! He also acted as tour guide for his group, which was pretty funny. It was a great day!

 May Flowers
All winter long I look forward to planting my flowers and garden in the spring. I love how my little herb garden is coming along. I added oregano, thyme, and Thai basil.

I also planted my tomatoes (Cherokee Purple, Roma, Beefsteak, cherry, and 3 herilooms from Aunt Kathy) and peppers (jalapeno and green).

Lydia's broccoli plants finally have tiny little florets! They actually ended up having a really funny texture and color to them, so while she wasn't paying attention, I switched them for some store-bought broccoli. She said they were delicious - the best she's ever had!

Our pea plants are thriving, as well!

SonShine PreSchool Teacher Appreciation Week
I was in charge of Teacher Appreciation week at Lydia's Preschool. Back in April, I sent home a letter requesting monetary donations from parents for this special week. There was a great response and due to such generosity, I was able to put together a really nice celebration for the much-deserving teachers!

Memorial Day and Daddy's Birthday
We finished May out with Daddy's birthday and a Baden Family gathering at Cattail. The kids had so much fun playing in the creek, swinging in the hammock, and playing with their cousins! We also celebrated Daddy's 36th birthday while we were there! I made a special breakfast, which included orange-vanilla monkey bread, bacon, and hash brown casserole.

Lydia's Last Day of School
Lydia had her last day of school when we returned from Memorial Day. She loved her teachers, Ms. Laura and Ms. Julie, and says she's going to miss her friends so much! She loved the End of the Year Ice Cream Party and can't wait to be in the 3 Year Old Class next year!
