January 2019

January was a slow month for us but we welcomed it with open arms after a very busy holiday season.

Warm Days
Its always nice to have a break from the cold winter weather, and we had some lovely days this month. The warm temperatures and blue skies almost made us forget that we still have a lot of winter to go. We took advantage of the spring-like days with picnics and playing outside. Jacob even got some practice in on his new bike.

I made a wreath with clippings from our boxwoods while the kids played outside one afternoon!

I felt really lucky to have two (much needed) little breaks from the ordinary this month! I spent a Saturday at a Well-Crafted Retreat with Ryan and then Scott and I spent a (belated) weekend together celebrating our anniversary.

Well Crafted Retreat

Ryan invited me to attend a creative women's retreat with her towards the end of January. I'm not really into attending conferences, but this was such a different experience. It was a lovely day filled with worship, art workshops, pampering, delicious food, and inspiring teaching. My favorite parts of the day were the painting workshop and the candlelight dinner. It was also really fun to spend the day with Ryan kid (and husband) free!

Anniversary Celebration

Scott and I celebrated 10 years of marriage on December 27th, but we had to cancel our plans when I got sick. Scott usually takes the day off, but wasn't able to this year since he took the previous Friday off to be with his family. We decided to wait until things settled down in January before planning a weekend away and it was well worth the wait.

We headed out around lunchtime on Friday. We stopped for a light lunch at Duck Taco before stopping to get our flu shots on the way to our hotel in Asheville.

We ate at the Grove Park Inn on Friday night and had perfect sunset timing with our arrival.

We enjoyed some time by the lobby fireplace after dinner and I got a good laugh at Scott's old man shoes! He's had them for as long as I've known him, but I don't think I've ever realized exactly how old man-ish they are! I think I know what he's getting for his birthday.

We spent Saturday morning running some errands around town and picking up take-out for lunch. We spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool.

We had dinner reservations at Chiesa and then went back to the Grove Park for an after dinner drink by the fire.

The next morning we checked out of our hotel after breakfast and one last pool/gym time. We decided to treat ourselves to Duck Donuts before a late lunch at Sunny Point Café.

A trip to the grocery store was our last stop before heading home to the kids! It was great to have some time away, and even better to come back home to Jacob and Lydia!

Dentist

The kids has dentist appoints this month and both did such a great job. Poor Jacob has inherited deep grooves in his teeth like his daddy and had to go back for sealants the following week. He was a trooper though and didn't even flinch throughout the whole procedure.

Spirit Week

Jacob had Spirit Week at school during the last week of January. Here's Wacky-Tacky Wednesday. He's continuing to love school!
