O'Christmas Tree...

Our little family has a tradition of going the day or so after Thanksgiving to pick out our Christmas Tree. We go out to breakfast and then on to our little tree lot in Hendersonville, or as we did last year, Lowes (Ha!). But this year I really, really wanted to go to a tree farm and make a fun memory cutting down a fresh one. With the kids being a little older and so excited about Christmas this year, I thought it would be the perfect way to create a lasting Christmas memory!

We had been at Grandma and Grandaddy's house for Thanksgiving, and they, along with Uncle Michael, decided to join us. Early Saturday morning we packed up and headed out to Sandy Hollar Tree Farm in Leicester. We stopped for biscuits along the way. The rest of the group was about an hour behind us, so we just met up with them at the farm.

While waiting for the others to arrive, Jacob and Lydia checked out some trees, said hi to Mrs. Claus, and enjoyed some hot chocolate and candy canes.

We took a hayride up the mountain to find our tree.

Just as we started searching for our perfect tree, Jacob announced he had to poop and absolutely could not wait. There were no bathrooms on the side of the mountain, of course, and the tractor had already headed back down the mountain to pick up another group. We were way too far out to walk back, and this was the first time in 4.5 years that I didn't have a single wipe, paper towel, or kleenex on me! We told Jacob if he couldn't wait, he was going to have to poo-poo outside. He was okay with that arrangement and even thought it was fun to go poo-poo like puppies do! Long story short, Daddy ended up finding a woodpile that provided some privacy and they were able to take care of business!

While all the poo-poo drama was going down, Lydia and I set up camp at our tree! I used to teach in Leicester and the man who cut our tree for us was a student from my second year teaching! Its always fun to see former students as adults!

We tried to tie our tree to the top of our van, but the sensors on the sliding doors wouldn't go over the string! Luckily we were able to lay down the back row of seats and cram it in the back with the kids! On the upside, our car had a wonderful natural air freshener! On the ride home, Scott and I looked at each other and burst out laughing. Things didn't really go how we imagined it beforehand, but we certainly got our memory!

The kids were so excited to bring the tree in and get it set up in our living room! They kept giving it hugs!

The tree seemed kind of small when it was bundled up, but once we let it loose, it was the perfect size and perfectly shaped. We've decided this is the prettiest (and healthiest) tree we've ever had!

The next day we pulled all our Christmas decorations and lights out of the garage and got to work!

We also set up Jacob's little tree in his room. He decorated it all by himself. Can you tell?

Our tree turned out beautifully, and it was so special to decorate it together. The kids, especially Jacob, got so excited over each ornament. Jacob kept exclaiming, "Ohhh!!!! Remember this one? Its my favorite!" We've decided Sandy Hollar is our new Christmas Tree tradition, and look forward to going back for years to come!
