August 2019

August was a month filled with fun times with our little family and friends! I always feel like things kind of slow down for us in August, as our big trips are over, but there's still a good bit of time before the kids head back to school. We finally get around to doing fun outings we haven't managed so far in the summer.

Our sunflowers are finally blooming!!! And the butterflies are loving our zinnias! I staggered my seeds when planting the past few months, so we have been enjoying beautiful blooms all summer long!

August kicked off with Wee Trade! Daddy and the kids met me for lunch at Salsarita's after my volunteer shift.

This dress is my favorite Wee Trade find! Too cute!!! its going to be awhile before its cool enough to wear any of my great fall finds, but we're ready!

Even though the weather's been incredibly hot, we had a camp-out in our backyard. The kids have been wanting to do one all summer, so we decided to go for it! The plan was to make smores, but Daddy and a hard time getting the fire to last more an a few minutes, so we settled for un-smored smores instead! I was surprised that all four of us made it the whole night in the tent. I had my doubts about Lydia, but she loved it!

We also had a couple of play-date days with Avalee and Caden in August. Their new baby brother was born in July, so it worked out well to let their mom have some quiet time at home and for the kids to have fun together. Jacob confided in me that he almost likes Avalee enough to marry her!

We also finally made it to the Nature Center and then made a special stop at Pelican's on the way home.

Jacob got sealants on his top permanent molars and did awesome. The hygienist couldn't believe how still and calm he was for his age! We've come a long way since his first dentist visit!

Family Trip to Greenville

Our family trip to Greenville was the highlight of our month! We've been planning this trip for a while and counting down the days! While we love having trips with our extended family, we realized we've never done a "just for fun trip" with just our family. We chose Greenville, SC because its less than an hour from our house and it has tons of kid and family friendly things to do. Even with the record-breaking heat wave that passed through during our trip we had the best time!

The picture below is the first in an extensive series we like to call "Waiting on Daddy."

We arrived in Greenville shortly before lunch time and caught the tail-end of the downtown Farmer's Market. After walking down Main Street we stopped for lunch.

After lunch we walked to Falls Park, which is also downtown. As you can see from the sweaty pictures, it was HOT! Thankfully we were prepared with lots of water and most of our walk was shaded. We also did a loop on the free trolley, which the kids LOVED!

After our sweaty downtown adventure, we checked into our AirBnB, unloaded our stuff, and headed to dinner at a nearby taco restauarant.

Sunday was Swamp Rabbit Trail Day! We knew it was going to be hot, so we tried to get an early start. Jacob's made alot of progress when it comes to riding his big-boy bike, but this was the first time he had to also be considerate of other riders, walkers, and runners. We were a little nervous, but he did great! I pulled Lydia in the trailer and Scott rode behind Jacob. We rode from the zoo almost to Falls Park before turning around.

After our bike ride, we went back to our rental for lunch and a rest before heading downtown to check out the Thomas the Train exhibit at the SC Museum of History. We also did another trolley loop and got some ice cream before picking up dinner to eat at home. It was a full, hot day and we all slept well that night!

We spent Monday morning at the ZOO! While the Greenville Zoo is small, its actually the perfect size for our kids. We were able to see everything in a few hours, which was great, because it was another scorcher of a day! The favorites were the lions, giraffes, monkeys, and flamingos!

After the zoo, we ate lunch and went home to rest before heading out to a nice dinner. The restaurant was connected to the mall and the escalator was the highlight of the trip!

We spent the last day of our trip at the Greenville Children's Museum. It was awesome!!! We stayed alllll day and the kids were still so sad to leave! They had so much fun!!! It was the perfect way to end a pretty perfect trip!

Meet the Teacher

After our Greenville trip, it was time to start thinking about school! The Friday before the 1st day both kids had Meet the Teacher at their schools. They were so excited to find their cubbies and seats and to meet their new teachers!

First Day of School!

The kids both had great first days of school! Daddy was able to come along to walk Jacob into his new classroom. He didn't get to come to Meet the Teacher, so Jacob was excited to show him his new desk! We celebrated a great start to the year at Pelican's on Friday.
