Poor Jacob was sick on his 2nd birthday, but we made the best of it and still managed to celebrate. We started the morning with his breakfast favorites - blueberry pancakes and waffles. He also had fun opening a few little presents from Mommy and Daddy.

Jacob enjoyed dining with Elmo :)

That evening we headed over to MeMe's (my mom's) house for dinner and more celebrating. I was really grateful that she offered to make dinner and cake, because as the day progressed I ended up with Jacob's fever on top of my still ever-present nausea. Jacob had fun digging into his cupcake, but had zero interest in presents that night!
Jacob's birthday fell on Mother's Day this year, and I could not think of a more fitting way to celebrate motherhood than to also celebrate the little guy who made me a mom!
His birthday party was the following weekend, and even though he'd gotten over his illness from the previous week, he ended up with another one. He woke up the morning of his party with a fever of over 103. After some debate, we decided to continue on with the party, mainly because we planned to surprise our friends and family with the baby news. At this point I was 15 plus weeks and we really did not want to wait any longer. Luckily, Tylenol and Motrin brought his fever down some and even though he didn't feel his best, he still seemed to have a good time. (Side note: I called guests, specifically those with kids, and gave them a heads up that Jacob was sick in case they didn't want to risk being exposed.) Once all the guests had arrived, we surprised everyone with our news by having Jacob open a present with a "Big Brother" shirt in it! Besides us, my mom & Megan were the only ones who knew. Nobody else was even suspicious, so it was a really fun surprise!
Overall, it ended up being a fun day even though the birthday boy wasn't feeling well. It's always great to gather with friends and family and we're so appreciative of all the wonderful people in Jacob's life, those who came to celebrate with us, as well as those who weren't able to make it! And I can't forget to say a BIG thank you to my parents and Scott's parents for helping with food, set-up, and clean-up!
