June was a great month for us! Jacob was over all his illnesses and finally getting back into a normal routine. My "morning" sickness was over, and it felt wonderful to enjoy food and my family again. A few highlights from this month:
Jacob had his first Krispy Kreme experience! The weekend after we found out the baby was a girl, we visited Scott's parents and thought it would be fun to show up with pink glazed doughnuts to share the news. When Jacob and I arrived at Krispy Kreme the HOT NOW light was on. How can you pass that up? I convinced Jacob to try a bite, and it was love at first taste! When our doughnut was gone he said, "I NEED more!"
We had a nice visit with Scott's parents at the lake, and it was exciting to share the baby girl news! Jacob had a blast playing the piano and watching boats from the deck. He also liked playing with the steering wheel of their boat, but was definitely not a fan of the boat actually being on! I figured beforehand that would be the case. Oh, well. Maybe next year!
I absolutely love to read and love going to the library almost as much. Ever since Jacob was an infant, I've taken him to story times at various libraries in the area and he has always hated it. He loves books and loves to read, but has no tolerance for story time...until story time included a fire truck! Even though you'd never know by the expression on his face, this might have been the highlight of his life so far.
Another fun event this summer was Nolan joined the party with Kason and Jacob after Karen went back to work in late May. With an infant and two toddlers, some days go more smoothly than others, but overall the transition has gone really well! Nolan is a sweet baby and of course super cute! I also think its great that Jacob can have some baby exposure and some practice sharing me before Baby Sister joins us in November. So far, Jacob absolutely adores "Baby No-No"!
Our Father's Day celebration was pretty low-key this year, but Jacob and I made sure Daddy knew how much we love and appreciate him! I am so grateful for all he does for our family and for the way he loves us! They don't come much better than Scott!
My dad was also able to stop by for a quick visit on Father's Day weekend. Jacob was super excited to see Papa and his truck. Papa lets him sit in the driver's seat and play with all the buttons and switches. I'm not sure who has more fun!
At the very end of June, we headed to Pawley's Island with Scott's family, and had a wonderful week of beach and family fun. One thing we've realized since having Jacob is that beach vacations with a baby/toddler/small child, are not really vacations, or at least not the relaxing, carefree vacations of your pre-kid life. Going to the beach with a kid is a lot of work. However, we found this year to be much easier and more enjoyable than the previous two years. Maybe it was because Jacob was older and enjoyed it more himself, or maybe we just had more realistic expectations. Whatever the reason, we felt like we kind of had things figured out this go-round! (Just in time to shake things up for next year, right?)
Jacob wasn't sure of the beach the first morning, but he slowly warmed up to it. While he remained terrified of the ocean, he had lots of fun playing in the sand and loved splashing around in the tidal pools. The first morning, he refused to take his shoes and socks off. He ended up hanging out in the tidal pool, as well as the swimming pool, wearing both!
