Summer 2015: August

Jacob finally had his first official haircut! The kid didn't even have hair until he was about 18 months old, so it was hard to cut it after he'd worked so hard to grow it! But he was starting to get a rat tail, so it had to be done. I took him to the Fletcher Barber Shop one morning, not really thinking he'd willingly let his hair be cut. We'd attempted the month before at my salon, and it ended with lots of screaming. However, this place had a fire truck seat, cars to play with, and a train. After a few minutes of playing with the trucks, I was able to lure him on my lap with the promise of chocolate chips. He ate about half a bag while Mr. Chris cut his hair. Afterwards, he got to pick out a Hot Wheels car for being such a big boy! Speaking of big boy, he certainly looks the part now!

The main event of August was our beach trip to Edisto Island with my family. Edisto is absolutely beautiful. The large oak trees draped with Spanish moss make it quite picturesque. Its mostly residential, has very little traffic, and few restaurants, which really makes it perfect for a quiet beach getaway.

Andrew, Thomas, and Ryan were able to go to Botany Bay, a wildlife preserve, which has a virtually untouched, undeveloped beach. The rest of us tried to join them, but we didn't make it before the gates closed for the evening.

Our house was right on the beach, which was beautiful and convenient! It was very easy to go back and forth between the beach and the house throughout the day, which is a huge plus when you're 28 weeks pregnant and toting a two year old. Jacob had fun playing in the sand, collecting sea shells, watching pelicans, and even decided to like the ocean for about five minutes one day! When we went to Pawley's Island earlier in the summer he wouldn't go anywhere near the ocean and even got upset if we did. However, this time he wanted me to fill his bucket up with water and bring it back to him under the tent. After water trip #25, I asked if he wanted to come with me and surprisingly he did. He ended up putting his feet in and had fun jumping in the waves. It was short lived though. After that one time, he didn't want to get back in for the rest of the week, but he would occasionally put his toes in at the edge of the surf. It was fine though. He was pretty content to play in the sand!

While he wasn't really into the ocean, Jacob loved the water hose we used to rinse off after being at the beach. He had a blast playing with the hose and the little inflatable pool Meme brought for him.

The local seafood market and fresh produce stand were one of my favorite things about Edisto. We made daily trips to each for dinner. Aside from the fresh seafood and veggies, we also picked up delicious desserts from the produce stand, such as banana pudding and key lime pie. Lets just say nobody went hungry!

And I had to include the following series of pictures of Jacob waiting for chocolate chip cookies to bake!

We all agreed this was one of our best beach weeks yet! The house, weather, food, and company were all great! Ryan and I had high hopes for a family photo night, but it didn't quite happen...oh well...there's always next year!
