Our first glimpse of Baby Baden at 10 weeks. There's nothing like hearing the heartbeat for the first time! |
As with Jacob, we decided to keep the news (mostly) to ourselves until after the first trimester. One exception was my mom, who was a complete lifesaver throughout my morning, or more accurately 24/7, sickness. I honestly don't know what we would have done without her. Even though I had experienced awful sickness during my first trimester with Jacob, it was worse this time around and lasted weeks longer. Also, having an energetic toddler to entertain and care for all day makes nausea and vomiting an even more unpleasant activity than it already is. We were incredibly grateful for my mom's willingness to come over after work to play with Jacob, bring and make us meals, and to keep our secret until we were ready to share!
I also ended up sharing our secret with one of my best and dearest friends, Megan Houston. The Houston's live in Kernersville, so we don't get to see them as much as we wish we could. When Megan said she was able to come for a quick visit on her Spring Break, I decided I was going to surprise her with my news. However, I ended up being the one completely surprised! It turns out she had the same secret! She is due with her second baby on November 8th. Our due dates are only FOUR days apart! We could not have planned this better if we tried! I mean, how perfect is it to experience not one, but two pregnancies with your best friend? (Megan's son, Zander, is three weeks older than Jacob.)
Jacob and Zander are super excited to be Big Brothers in November! |
Also this spring, Jacob spent about 5 weeks (back-to-back) sick, which was miserable for all involved. We've been pretty lucky when it comes to our little guy staying healthy, but between mid-April and the end of May he could not catch a break. As soon as he got over one virus or cold, he'd come down with another. You name it, he had it at some point during that time - hacking cough, congestion, runny nose, vomiting, diarrhea, and a crazy-high fever that lasted a week. To top it off, he also cut all four of his two year molars during this time.
Between illnesses, we took advantage of warm spring days by getting outside whenever we could. One of my biggest pet peeves is when parents take sick kids out in public, so we stuck close to home during this time. It worked out just fine though, because I was still very sick myself. In early May we planted our summer garden, which ended up taking about 3x as long with our little guy "helping" out this year! :)
And we can't forget about Daddy's 32nd birthday! We are so grateful for him and all he does for our family. Jacob and I made his favorite: carrot cake!
