We headed out of town on Thursday morning after dropping Jacob at school and getting Lydia settled with Grandaddy. We had a nice drive and were amazed at how easy it felt without having to entertain the kids or listen to crying for three-fourths of the trip! We rented a cottage on Daniel Island, which was a beautiful island filled with multi-million dollar homes. We shared a delicious pizza by the lake before heading into Charleston for the evening.
Our cottage...
We had a few hours before our dinner reservation at Poogan's Porch, so we enjoyed walking around the historic district and waterfront. I loved looking at all the old buildings and beautiful flowers.
After dinner we headed over to the Yatch Club for the wedding welcome party. It was great to catch up with old friends, see Anna, and meet her fiancé, Jordan. She was beautiful and obviously very excited and very much in love!
When we got back to our cottage this little guy was waiting to greet us!
We spent Friday at the beach after grabbing breakfast at a little bagel shop. Daniel Island is only about 15 minutes from Isle of Palms. The weather was gorgeous - sunny, breezy, and warm. It was so relaxing to sit and watch the ocean with not a single thing to do! We took a walk and found all kinds of sea creatures! The best part of the day was definitely our take-out from Coconut Joes. I'm still dreaming of the crab cake, pimento cheese, bacon sandwich!
The wedding was that evening at Magnolia Plantation. Anna and Jordan said their vows under beautiful English Oak Trees draped with Spanish Moss. She was radiant and you could just tell how much these two love each other. After the ceremony we enjoyed more time with old friends and each other. We were really excited to see Tito, the minister who married us almost ten years ago. It was such a special night and were so glad to have been a part of it!
We spent the rest of the day just walking around. There were so many beautiful flowers, historic homes, and hidden alleys to explore. I'm pretty sure we walked over five miles by the end of the day. We also toured the Nathaniel Russell House. While I love touring historic homes, its not Scott's favorite, but he was a good sport! I just thought it was cool to see inside one of the gorgeous mansions we had been seeing from the outside all day.
Rainbow Row
Before heading home on Sunday, we stopped back by Magnolia Plantation to tour the gardens and I'm so glad we did! Beforehand we debated the stop. We were both pretty tired and missing the kids, but decided we might as well since we had the opportunity.
It was a great get-away, but we were so happy to get home and pick up our sweet kids from Meme! (They seem even sweeter after having some time away from them!) They had lots of fun with their grandparents and had excellent behavior reports.
The following week, my friend Julie and I went out one evening to celebrate her (belated) birthday. We usually have kids in tow, so it was lots of fun to have uninterrupted hang-out time together!
